August 2011 Tennis Tidbidts

*Junior Jessica Hatch turned in the fastest mile in 10:24 at the first varsity women's tennis practice on Monday, August 1st.

*Seventh grader Brycen Radford turned in a 9:00 mile at varsity women's tennis practice on Tuesday, August 2nd.

*The GCTA would like to thank Selena Sutton, Harrison Welch, Geneva Colie, and Lori Thigpen for volunteering at the Greene Central Women's Tennis Super Scrimmage Extravaganza #1 on Friday, August 5th.

*Seventh grader Brycen Radford turned in the fastest mile again at varsity women's tennis practice on Wednesday, August 3rd in 8:40.


*The GCTA would like to welcome two new tennis players, Brittany Anderson and Josh Anderson.

*The GCTA 10 and Under Junior Tennis Team played very well in both of its matches at the Downeast Jamboree on Tuesday, August 2nd at the River Birch Tennis Center.   We would like to commend Kristen Colie, Anna Scott Radford, Hinson Britt, and Madison Holloman for their outstanding play.


*The GCTA would like to welcome its newest tennis player, Elizabeth Lopergolo.


*The GCTA will be hosting an August Doubles, Doubles, and Doubles League.  Matches will be played on August 8, 15, and 22.   The deadline to register is Thursday, August 4th at 9:00 p.m.    Matches will begin at 6:30 p.m.    For more information or to enter, email Coach Clark.   We will try to find you a partner if you need help with that, but please give us some advance notice.   Women's doubles, men's doubles, and mixed doubles are all allowed in this league!

*GCTA president Lori Thigpen has been named the June Volunteer of the Month by the North Carolina Tennis Association.

*The Greene Central varsity women's tennis team will open play in the Port City Invitational against Wilmington New Hanover on Friday, August 19th at 4:30 p.m. at New Hanover High School.

*Former Greene Central star Allison Cobb, a starter on the 2000, 2001, 2002, and 2003 state finalist teams, is now teaching U.S. History at Farmville Central High School.

*Junior Olivia Jackson has posted a perfect 12-0 record at #1 singles for the Greene Central junior varsity women's tennis team this fall.

*Senior Brittany Colie has been accepted to East Carolina University for the fall of 2012.
