December 2010 Tennis Tidbits

*Brittany Colie and Danielle Dillane earned the Most Dedicated/Polar Bear/Temporary Insanity Award for attending general practice on Tuesday, December 7th and Wednesday, December 8th!

*Greene County Middle School women's tennis coach Terin Carraway is the proud parent of Payton Dawn Carraway.   Coach Carraway reports that her daughter is six weeks old and weighs 10 pounds.

*The Greene County Tennis Association Board of Directors meeting scheduled for Monday, January 10th has been postponed to January 24th at 7:00 p.m. due to the snow in the area.

*Freshmen Taylar Keel and Lindsey May were named the Most Valuable Players for the 2010 Greene Central High School junior varsity women's tennis team at the annual Fall Athletic Awards Banquet on Monday, December 13th.

*The GCTA is excited about its new tennis playing moms Jennifer Radford, Starr Britt, Geneva Colie, and Tina Langley.

*Amy Beaman Perry welcomed Christopher Hayden Perry into the world on January 7th.    Perry teamed with Allison Cobb Atkinson to win the 2003 2-A doubles state championship.


*Were you on the trip to tennis camp at Hilton Head in the early 1990's when Coach Clark backed into a Thunderbird with the activity bus?   Remember that Fuquay-Varina High School used to go with us on those trips?   One of those Fuquay-Varina players, Marshall Wortham, is now the head men's and women's tennis coach at Harnett Central High School.    He says he still thinks about the look on Coach Clark's face every time he starts to back an activity bus!

*We tried out the new speakers on Monday night at practice, and they sound great!   Thanks Mr. Deans!

*Greene Central High School will hold a meeting for all boys interested in playing tennis this spring on Tuesday, February 8th in room 4 at the high school at 3:15 p.m.

*Samantha Taylor, a three-year starter for the Lady Rams, was out at the tournament on Sunday.  Taylor reported that she is thoroughly enjoying her freshman year at Appalachian State University.

*The GCTA would like to thank Hunter Thigpen, Lori Thigpen, Robert Deans, Caitlin Deans, Lindsey Holloman, Chasity Holloman, Shayne Colie, Geneva Colie, and Carol Taylor for volunteering at the 14th annual Polar Bear Shootout on Sunday, February 6th!

*The GCTA would like to thank Robert Deans for repairing the wheels on our ball mower!

*The GCTA would like to thank Robert Deans, Alex Deans, and Daniel Deans for installing our new speakers at the Greene Central Tennis Complex.  As Mr. Deans promised at the January GCTA meeting, we will be able to use them at our first tournament this coming weekend!

*Greene Central High School will be hosting the 12th annual Men's Super Scrimmage Extravaganza #1 on Friday, February 18th at 5:00 p.m.   The four teams entered include Middle Creek, Clinton, Newton-Conover, and the host Greene Central Rams.    The Newton-Conover Red Devils are the defending 2-A state champions.
