September/October 2010 Tennis Tidbits

 *The GCTA would like to thank Norma and Hayes Lovett for all of their hard work and dedication that produced another fabulous Greene County Tennis Special Olympics on Wednesday, November 10th!

*The Greene Central varsity women's tennis team has been in the state playoffs 21 consecutive years.   The Lady Rams have won 53 state playoff matches since 1990 which puts them in a tie for third with East Chapel Hill in the state.   Only Raleigh Broughton (76) and Charlotte Catholic (68) have won more state playoffs matches since the dual team playoffs began.   Greene Central has a record of 53-18 in state playoff matches.

*The GCTA would like to thank Ken Radford for repairing the ball machine and for all his hard work landscaping around the new bushes at the Greene Central High School Tennis Complex.

*The GCTA wishes to thank Don Holloman and Jamie Holloman for spending three hours pressure washing the tennis/softball fieldhouse on Saturday, September 18th.

*The GCTA would like to thank Jim Cooper for refereeing at the Snow Hill Fall Futures Tournament on Saturday, September 11th.

*The GCTA would like to thank Jennifer Radford, Lisa May, Lindsey May, Anna Carpenter, Jon Carpenter, Geneva Colie, Brittany Colie, Kristen Colie, and Lori Thigpen for volunteering at the Snow Hill Fall Futures Tournament on Saturday, September 12th.

*The Greene Central Lady Rams' varsity women's tennis team is ranked #2 in the state in the latest NCHSTCA 2-A women's tennis poll released on Friday, September 3rd.


*The GCTA would like to thank Quentin Thigpen, Morgan Britt, Chasity Holloman, and Lindsey Holloman for volunteering at the Quick Start clinic on Tuesday, August 17th.


*The GCTA will be holding a free Quick Start Clinic on Tuesday, September 14th from 6:30 until 8:00 for ages 4-10.   Hunter Thigpen will be conducting the clinic.   Email Coach Clark to register.

*The Greene County Tennis Association would like to welcome its newest members Hope and Stan Vick and their children Jordan Barrow, Taylor Vick, and Kaylee Vick.

*The Greene Central varsity women's tennis team advanced to the final four in the state for the 11th time in the last 13th years in 2010.

*The GCTA would like to welcome its newest tennis players at the Greene Central High School Tennis Complex.   Madison Potter, Ken Radford, and Jennifer Radford all made their debut this month.

*The GCTA would like to thank Geneva Colie, Janet Overby, Bud Overby, Sam Overby, Martha Welch, Lori Thigpen, Anna Carpenter, Jessica Hatch, and Harrison Welch for volunteering at the 14th annual Greene Central Fall Championships on Saturday, November 20th!

*The Greene County Tennis Association will hold its annual Member Cookout for all members on Sunday, November 21st at 1:30 p.m. at the Greene Central High School Tennis Complex.   Members will also vote at this cookout on the 2011 Board of Directors.


*Senior Lauren Carraway, juniors Brittany Colie and Hayes Lovett, and sophomore Jessica Hatch have been named to the 2010 Eastern Plains Conference All-Conference Women's Tennis Team.
